Based on the original manga by Yuhiro Tsujitsugu, serialized in Monthly! Spirits and published by Shogakukan, Snowball Earth has built a growing international following. The series blends large-scale science fiction with kaiju battles and giant robot action, combining classic genre influences with a striking frozen-world setting.
The anime adaptation is produced by Studio KAI and will premiere April 3, 2026, streaming globally across multiple platforms.
A Story Set on a Frozen Earth
Shy young Tetsuo grew up with only one companion: a giant robot named Yukio. Together they defended humanity from monsters that invaded Earth from space.
Ten years after their final battle, Tetsuo returns to find the planet transformed into a frozen wasteland known as Snowball Earth. Carrying the promise he once made to Yukio, he begins exploring this unfamiliar world.
Cast and Production
The main cast of Snowball Earth includes Takuto Yoshinaga as Tetsuo Yabusame and Daisuke Hirakawa as Yukio, alongside Ami Koshimizu, Konomi Tamura, Kengo Kawanishi, Tomohiro Ohno, Manami Narahira, Anna Nagase, Chitose Morinaga, Maki Kawase, and Tomokazu Sugita.
The anime is directed by Munehisa Sakai with series composition by Shigeru Murakoshi. Character designs are handled by Toshiya Kono, while mechanical design comes from Sejoon Kim and monster design from Ryuta Yanagi. Music for the series is composed by Tatsuya Kato, Hiroaki Tsutsumi, and Yuki Kanesaka.
Music will also play an important role in shaping the series’ atmosphere. The opening theme, “zero” performed by tuki., and the ending theme, “What Now Burns Within My Chest" by Ai Higuchi, accompany the story’s mix of large-scale action and emotional character drama.
With its distinctive blend of frozen-world science fiction, kaiju battles, and giant robot storytelling, Snowball Earth is already drawing attention from anime fans ahead of its April premiere. The newly released trailer and key visual offer the clearest look yet at the world, characters, and scale of the upcoming adaptation.
