The Apothecary Diaries Announces Season 3 and First Ever Movie for 2026

The world of The Apothecary Diaries is expanding in a major way! The smash hit anime will officially return for Season 3, and the series will make its theatrical debut with an all-new movie.

Season 3 of The Apothecary Diaries is set to begin in October 2026 as a split two cour series. The first cour will run in October 2026, followed by the second cour in April 2027.

The story moves from the imperial palace to the bustling city as signs of national disaster emerge, a mysterious oracle woman confounds the people, and Jinshi faces new responsibilities as an imperial prince. Standing in the middle of it all is Maomao, who must confront trials unlike any she has seen before. Akinori Fudesaka, who directed Season 2, returns to direct Season 3.

The series will also receive its first feature-length adaptation. The movie version of The Apothecary Diaries is scheduled to premiere in December 2026 and will feature an entirely new story. Original author Hyūganatsu is providing the story concept, with longtime series architect Norihiro Naganuma directing. Naganuma previously served as series composer and director for Season 1 and returned as series composer and chief director for Season 2.

A newly unveiled teaser visual accompanies the announcement. The image centers on Maomao’s determined gaze, surrounded by swirling flames. The tagline reads, “The finest mysteries shimmer within those eyes,” hinting at the dramatic developments to come.
