A new trailer has been released for Though I Am an Inept Villainess, giving viewers their first look at the upcoming anime series ahead of its July 2026 debut.

Based on the light novel by Satsuki Nakamura, Though I Am an Inept Villainess is set in an imperial court where five clans compete to produce the next empress. The story follows KOU REIRIN, a beloved noblewoman who is suddenly swapped into the body of a condemned villainess, forcing her to survive a dangerous new reality shaped by court politics, status, and betrayal.

The first promotional video introduces the setting and premise of Though I Am an Inept Villainess while previewing footage from the anime for the first time.

Cast members for Though I Am an Inept Villainess have also been announced, including Makoto Furukawa as EI GYOUMEI, Yuichiro Umehara as SHIN-U, Hana Hishikawa as LEELEE, and Farahnaz Nukrayas as KOU TOUSETSU. The main cast includes Manaka Iwami as KOU REIRIN and Natsumi Kawaida as SHU KEIGETSU.

The series is directed by Mitsue Yamasaki, with series composition by Yoshiko Nakamura, character design by Ai Kikuchi, music by Yukari Hashimoto, and animation production by Doga Kobo.

Though I Am an Inept Villainess has already built a sizable audience, with the original novel and manga surpassing 4 million copies in circulation. It also won the Light Novel category at the “Everyone’s Choice 2023 Electronic Comic Awards” and ranked highly in BookLive’s 2023 annual women’s light novel rankings.
